First Annual Golden Badge Awards Big Success
On Saturday, September 29, 2012, the Riverside Police Foundation hosted its inaugural Golden Badge Awards at the Riverside Municipal Auditorium in Downtown Riverside. The newly formed Riverside
Police Foundation is a charitable organization created to fund youth programs within the police department. The goal of the Police Foundation is to provide service to youth and to promote public safety, improve quality of life in our community, and strengthen the partnership between Riverside youth, parents, community members, and the Police Department.Rob McMillian, the ABC7 Eyewitness News Inland Empire Bureau Chief, acted as Master of Ceremonies at the event which welcomed over 300 guests, honorees, and supporters. Former Riverside North High School student Courtney Blatchford was recognized for her outstanding work in the community and awarded a $1000 scholarship and the “Future Leader Award.” Mr. Dell Roberts was presented with the first “Chief’s Award” for his efforts in supporting youth programs in Riverside’s historic Eastside community. Honorable Mayor Ron Loveridge was recognized as the first recipient of the “Distinguished Leader Award” for his thirty-plus years of service to the City of Riverside. The award, which will be presented annually, was renamed at the ceremony as the “Ronald O. Loveridge Distinguished Leader Award.” Mayor Loveridge’s wife, Marsha, was also honored for her support of her husband during his distinguished career as an educator, a City Council member, and as Mayor.Attendees raised funds at the event by participating in a silent auction prior to the evening’s cermonies. Some of the items up for bid included vacation packages, golf foursomes, wine, and sporting memorabilia. After a gourmet dinner and the awards presentation, the bidding continued with a live auction. Up for bid were numerous items including VIP tickets for four to the Tournament of Roses Parade, a four-pack of round-trip Alaskan Airlines tickets to any of their 96 destinations, and two puppies from the Riverside County Animal Shelter.
The evening concluded with cocktails and dancing in front of the live band, “S.O.U.L. Music Entertainment.” While the funds raised are still being calculated, the evening was an overwhelming success. Plans have already begun for next year’s event.
